Committed to research, teaching, and service.

From the theory of relativity and its applications to the study of the large-scale structure of the universe, to the development of the modern computer and its manifold applications in science, technology, and business, mathematics has played—and will continue to play—a fundamental role. Notre Dame is playing a fundamental role in the teaching of mathematics, helping students to deepen their knowledge of the subject, while sharpening their analytical and problem-solving skills.

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Notre Dame provides students with the rigorous mental discipline and unsurpassed imaginative stimulation necessary to prepare them for graduate studies or for professional work in fields in which precision of results are mandated, such as economics, law, and medicine.
