In Pursuit of a Treatment for Niemann Pick Type C Disease - Saturday Science Exploration Series

Location: Jordan Hall of Science, Room 101

Niemann Pick Type-C Disease (NPC) is a rare, inherited disease that strikes young children and is 100% fatal. Included among the victims have been three of Coach Ara Parseghian's grandchildren. Driven by the absence of an effective treatment for this disease, professors Olaf Wiest and Paul Helquist have formed a multidisciplinary team of collaborating researchers at several universities and medical schools to find a treatment. Recent results have shown sufficient promise to attract cooperate partners into this quest.
