The Reilly Center is proud to announce a presentation by Philosopher and Environmental Ethicist Michael P. Nelson on the science, social science, ethics, and policy of the long-term Isle Royale wolf-moose research project.

Prof. Nelson is co-editor of Moral Ground: Ethical Action for a Planet in Peril with Kathleen Dean Moore and has performed extensive research on the wolves and moose on Isle Royale of Lake Superior. For the former project, Moore and Nelson have compiled letters responding to the question: “Do we have a moral obligation to take action to protect the future of a planet in peril?” The latter project deals with the isolated wolf and moose communities on Isle Royale, including the genetic constitution of the wolves and ethical dimensions of whether or not to introduce new wolves. A recent article he wrote is “Sustainability Science, Ethical Foundations and Emerging Challenges” (with John A. Vucetich), Nature Education Knowledge, 2012, 3 (10): 12. He contributed to The Blue River Declaration: An Ethic for the Earth (2011) – an ethic written by 20 environmental thinkers. He is also co-founder and co-director of Conservation Ethics Group, an award-winning environmental ethics consultancy group fusing ethics with social and ecological science (www.conservationethics.org).

The title and abstract will be sent out about one week prior to the presentation. Save the date for this presentation and we look forward to seeing you there.
