Join the students of Scientia for the monthly Talk Science: Innovation Series!

Michael Flavin, Ph.D., Managing Director of Flavin Ventures LLC and CEO of Shamrock Structures, will be speaking about his research as well as his experience with scientific entrepreneurship in his talk, "An Antibiotic Odyssey." Dr. Flavin has done extensive work in pharmaceutical research and has founded several companies focused on drug development. He has also received several awards, including the Sr. Margaret Wright Graduate Award from the University of Illinois, the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame and the Year 2000 Illinois High Tech Award. 
 
Christopher Barnes '15, a senior physics major, will be presenting on his exciting work in high energy physics, "Simulation Development for Equipment Upgrades and New Physics Searches on CMS." The Compact Muon Solenoid experiment is one of the primary detectors at the Large Hadron Collider and is one of the largest scientific collaborations in history. Its most notable experiments include studies of the Higgs Boson, extra dimensions, and the possible particle composition of dark matter.
