Blas Blazquez Castineira, a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Shahriar Mobashery, has received a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship of the Government of Spain. Castineira, who came to Notre Dame in January, was one of 350 recipients among 1,500 applicants. The fellowship term begins in September.

Castineira earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and in biochemistry in seven years of undergraduate work in Spain, where he earned his Ph.D. in molecular biology last year. He works in the Mobashery biochemistry lab, testing antibiotic compounds developed in the chemistry lab and trying to understand bacteria’s resistance to the antibiotics.
