M. Sharon Stack, Ann F. Dunne and Elizabeth Riley Science Director of the Harper Cancer Research Institute and professor of chemistry and biochemistry, was recently named to the board of the journal Cancer Research. Her term will last from January 1, 2013 to December 21, 2015. Cancer Research is a bi- monthly journal that publishes basic, preclinical, clinical, prevention and epidemiological cancer research. Cancer Research is the most frequently cited cancer journal in the world.

Stack came to Notre Dame in 2011 as the director of the Harper Cancer Research Institute, a partnership between Indiana University School of Medicine - South Bend (IUSM-SB) and the University of Notre Dame that focuses on multidisciplinary cancer research with groups in IUSM-SB, the College of Science and the College of Engineering.

Stack’s lab investigates epithelial ovarian carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity and focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of metastasis.  She has published over 125 peer-reviewed research articles and is a retired member of the Journal of Biological Chemistry and the Biochemical Journal editorial boards.
