First-round submissions for this year’s McCloskey New Venture Competition, where individuals and teams that have developed early-stage businesses compete for more than $200,000 in cash and prizes, are due Monday, Nov. 27.

Semifinalists will be announced in March, with the semifinal rounds beginning April 26, 2018.

The McCloskey New Venture Competition, sponsored by the Innovation, De-Risking and Enterprise Acceleration (IDEA) Center and the Mendoza College of Business, is intended for entrepreneurial ventures that have not yet been launched or are at the earliest stages of development.

Participants may compete either as individuals or in teams of up to seven people, and participants may enter more than one of their original ideas. They may enter the same venture in subsequent years, but must demonstrate that the business model has changed significantly in response to feedback from the previous year. Non-profit ventures may also enter, as long as the business model includes an income-generating revenue stream in addition to traditional philanthropic sources like donations or grants.

Other sponsors include First State Bank, Fellow Irish Social Hub, Lavrock Ventures, Irish Angels, Schurz Communications Inc., Palo Alto Software, PlugandPlayTechCenter.com, Riddhi IP, and Innovation Park.
