Two of the six travel award winners in this year’s India-U.S. Physics Students Visitation Program were graduate students in Physics at Notre Dame. Akaa Daniel Ayangeakaa and James Matta, both advised by Umesh Garg, participated in the program co-sponsored by the Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and the American Physical Society (APS).
The students later this year will participate in experiments on the study of nuclear tidal waves using the Doppler Shift Attenuation Method (DSAM) at the Indian National Gamma-ray Array (INGA) at the Tata Institute for Fundamental Research (TIFR) in Mumbai.
The exchange program (www.aps.org/programs/international/us-india-travel.cfm) invites U.S. and Indian graduate students to apply for $3,000 in travel funds to attend a short course or summer institute, work temporarily ion a laboratory or pursue another worthwhile opportunity. The program aims to give graduate students first-hand experience with India's culture, science and people while fostering collaborations with fellow Indian scientists at the early stage in their careers. This year’s application deadline is Nov. 1.
