Rupley to lead Notre Dame ESC

Michael Rupley has joined the University of Notre Dame as director of Engineering and Science Computing (ESC). Serving the colleges of engineering and scienceand in conjunction with the University’s Office of Information Technology, ESC provides direct technical support, consulting, and problem solving to faculty, staff, and students relating to academic computing, video conferencing,  technology life cycle management, and information security.

Rupley comes to Notre Dame from Michiana Hematology Oncology in South Bend, where he served as IT director, responsible for all aspects of information technology. He developed and implemented enterprise-class data centers for the company as well as mission-critical systems, such as electronic medical records, document management, and more. He also continues to serve as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Indiana University South Bend.

Prior to his tenure at Michiana Hematology, Rupley served as project manager of Distributed Systems at Newell Rubbermaid in Freeport, Ill., leading enterprise projects such as worldwide implementation of Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange. He was also vice president of Data Processing at Corporate Services in South Bend, where he was responsible for all aspects of IT for that company.

He holds a master’s in applied mathematics and computer science and a bachelor’s in computer science, both from Indiana University.

Rupley replaces Edward Bensman, a research professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering & Earth Sciences and the former director, who is on leave from Notre Dame while serving as program director of the Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences at the National Science Foundation.
