Department Description: The Center for Health Sciences Advising oversees Preprofessional Studies; provides programming, direct advising and assistance to all Notre Dame students and alumni applying to health profession schools; and manages application recommendation packets for prospective students and alumni.
On average, more than three-fourths of all Notre Dame applicants to M.D. or D.O. programs are accepted. The average Notre Dame applicant has a MCAT above the national average. Science Preprofessional, Biological Sciences and Arts and Letters Preprofessional are the most prevalent majors among those applying to advanced study in the health professions. Students from every major in Science, Arts and Letters and Engineering apply to health professions schools. Recently a few students from the College of Business have decided to pursue medicine, as well, and the office provides advice and application support.
The Center, based in the Jordan Hall of Science, maintains a resource room with information about professional schools, including admissions requirements, and holds a series of training meetings to help undergraduates navigate the process of applying to medical, dental and other schools.
