Engbers and Shirey receive top awards at GSU Research Symposium

John Engbers, Ph.D. student in the Department of Mathematics, received the award for best entry in the sciences at the Graduate Student Union’s 2011 Research Symposium. Engbers presented "The Typical Structure of Proper Colorings of the Discrete Hypercube." Patrick Shirey, Ph.D. student in the Department of Biological Sciences, received second place for his research titled, "An Interdisciplinary Approach to Informing Ecological Restoration and Environmental Management."

Other College of Science presenters were Barrett Duan of Chemistry and Biochemistry, "High Sensitivity Hydrogen Sensing with Platinum decorated Porous Gallium Nitride Prepared by Metal-Assisted Eleroless Etching"; Sean Murphy of Chemistry and Biochemistry, "Porphyrin and Silver Nanoparticles: Charge Transfer Complexation and Excited State Interactions"; Jill Voreis of Chemistry and Biochemistry, "A Novel Protein: CLIPR76"; and Nicholas Geraci of Biological Sciences, "Characterization of microRNA Expression Profiles in Leishmania-Infected Human Host Cells."
