Ethics Café - Climate Change and Assisted Migration: What obligations do humans have to species?

Location: Geddes Hall Coffeehouse

Reilly Center Logo

What obligations do humans have to species since we have contributed to climate change? Should we interfere with nature by moving species? What do we do if relocated species become invasive in the new habitat? Conservation ecologist Maria Hällfors of the Finnish Museum of Natural History and a collaborator with ND's Environmental Change Initiative will host a discussion on the ethical issues raised by assisted migration, which is the human-managed translocation of species threatened by climate change to more suitable habitats.
