Healthcare has changed a lot over the last 20 years with the help of new medicines from pharmaceutical companies.  Many diseases that were considered as a death penalty 20 years ago have now become manageable chronic diseases. Pharmaceutical statisticians are at the forefront in meeting many of these challenges. They have contributed significantly in all areas of drug research and development from the initial identification of a chemical right through to regulatory approval, manufacturing and commercialization of pharmaceutical products.

In this talk, we will present the role and responsibility of statisticians working in pharmaceutical companies.   The attributes that are necessary for being a successful pharmaceutical statistician will be discussed. Some research topics from pharmaceutical statisticians will be illustrated.
