His research and clinical efforts are part of a burgeoning aspect of health care focused on personalized medicine. Acknowledging that the genetic profiles of tumors can vary across patients, oncologists are increasingly availing themselves of genomic techniques that facilitate the tailoring of cancer therapies to a specific tumor type. This approach increases the efficacy of cancer treatments and requires physicians to become more intimately involved in ongoing advances in understanding cancer biology. Such a perspective will undoubtedly characterize the many aspects of health care training experienced by our students in their postgraduate programs.
