Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics
Stefano Castruccio, Ph.D., Notre Dame Collegiate Associate Professor, received the Gordon Bell Prize for Climate Modelling from the Association for Computing Machinery. Jonathan Hauenstein, Ph.D., Robert and Sara Lumpkins Collegiate Professor and Department Chair, received the Simons Fellowship in Mathematics. Fang Liu, Notre Dame Collegiate Professor and Associate Chair, became an elected member of the International Statistical Association.
Department of Biological Sciences
Elizabeth Archie, Ph.D., Nieuwland Collegiate Professor, was named an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Tyler Coverdale, Ph.D., assistant professor, received the Harper Prize from the British Ecological Society. Ana Flores-Mireles, Ph.D., the Janet C. and Jeffrey A. Hawk Collegiate Associate Professor, received a 2024 Inspiring Hispanic/Latinx Scientist honor from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and was also named a Remarkable ASM Early Career Scientist from the American Society of Microbiology. Jason McLachlan, Ph.D., associate professor, received the George Mercer Award from the Ecological Society of America. Jason Rohr, Ph.D., the Ludmilla F., Stephen J., and Robert T. Galla College Professor and Department Chair, was named the winner of the International Frontiers Planet Prize from the Frontiers Research Association, and also received the Ecological Society of America Sustainability Science Award from the Frontiers Research Foundation. Felipe Santiago-Tirado, Ph.D., assistant professor, received a 2024 Inspiring Hispanic/Latinx Scientist honor from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Nathan Swenson, Ph.D., professor and Gillen Director, Environmental Research Center (UNDERC), was named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
Adam Jaffe, Ph.D., assistant professor, was named a Scialog Fellow for the Research Corporation for Science Advancement. Marya Lieberman, Ph.D., Nancy Dee Professor of Cancer Research, received the Gustavus John Esselen Award for Chemistry in the Public Interest from the Northeastern section of the American Chemical Society. She was also named joint grand prize winner of the 2024 Trinity Challenge for her Paper Analytical Device Project.
Department of Mathematics
Katrina Barron, Ph.D., associate professor, was named a fellow of the Association for Women in Mathematics. Thomas Andrew Putman, Ph.D., Notre Dame Professor of Topology, received a Simons Fellowship in Mathematics from the Simons Foundation. Claudiu Raicu, Ph.D., the Frank M. Freimann Collegiate Professor, was awarded the Lucian Badescu Prize from the Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy. Sergei Starchenko, Ph.D., professor, was invited to deliver the Alfred Tarski Lectures at the University of California, Berkeley.
Department of Physics and Astronomy
Members of the High Energy Particle Physics group, consisting of more than 30 current and past Notre Dame physicists, were named as co-recipients for the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics. Peter Garnavich, Ph.D., professor, was named a fellow of the American Astronomical Society. Lara Arielle Phillips, Ph.D., associate professor of the practice, was awarded a Simons Emmy Noether Fellowship from the Perimeter Institute. Michael Wiescher, Ph.D., the Frank M. Freimann Professor of Physics, was EMMI visiting professor of the Helmholtz Society, GSI Darmstadt.
