Malcolm is an American Studies major and Sustainability minor. His capstone project examines the opportunities and challenges involved in introducing urban agriculture on abandoned land in cities such as Detroit and Cleveland.
"I decided to research the benefits of natural areas in postindustrial cities for my capstone because of my interest in reconnecting people with nature," says Malcolm, "whether it be where we live or where we escape to."
Malcolm interned with the Sierra Club in Washington, D.C. last summer, and after graduation will be working for Environment America, a federation of state-based, citizen-funded environmental advocacy organizations.
"I am excited to work with Environment America after graduation," adds Malcolm, "because it provides me with the opportunity to educate other people about the importance of America's public lands and help protect these spaces so that we can reap the recreational, ecological, and environmental benefits they provide."
