The University of Notre Dame’s Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics is delighted to announce the appointment of Roger Woodard as the inaugural director of its new online M.S.-ACMS Data Science graduate program.
In this role, Woodard will lead Notre Dame’s online graduate program in data science, which begins classes in August 2017. A prize-winning teacher and widely published author in statistics pedagogy, Woodard joins Notre Dame after 14 years at North Carolina State University. At NCSU, Woodard was a teaching professor in the Department of Statistics and, since 2013, director of online programs in the Department of Statistics. Woodard has won numerous teaching awards, including the NC State Outstanding Teacher Award, the American Statistical Association’s 2005 Waller Education Award for excellence and innovation in teaching, and most recently, was named an N.C. State Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor. Roger Woodard graduated cum laude from Culver Stockton College with a B.A. in mathematics in 1992. He earned a Ph.D. in statistics from the University of Missouri.
In August 2016, Notre Dame announced its collaboration with AT&T around its new online master’s program in data science. Offered by the Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics, with the collaboration of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the Mendoza College of Business, and the Department of Psychology, this degree program is designed to prepare graduates for careers as data scientists in a wide range of industry fields including management, marketing, information technology, government policy, health care, finance, education, and scientific research.
