The Notre Dame QuarkNet Center was featured as the cover story in the November issue of Optics and Photonics News, a major journal for scientists and engineers in the field of photonics.  QuarkNet is a national education and outreach program that partners high school teachers and students with particle physicists.  Physics Professor Randy Ruchti was a co-founder of QuarkNet, and currently Profs. Mitch Wayne and Dan Karmgard serve as principal investigators of the NSF-supported side of the national program.  In addition to running the national program, Notre Dame hosts an active local QuarkNet center where teachers and students learn about particle physics and help the group with detector development and fabrication for experiments at Fermilab, CERN and future accelerators.
