Matthew Gursky honored during the Notre Dame vs USC game

Matthew Gursky honored during the Notre Dame game on Oct

Matthew Gursky, professor of mathematics, was honored on the field during the Notre Dame football game against USC on Saturday evening (Oct. 19). He received a commemorative football from senior associate provost Chris Maziar.

Earlier this year, Gursky completed a three-year term as chair of the Department of Mathematics. A former Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Research Fellow, he has lectured around the world, including at the International Congress of Mathematicians.

His current research seeks the keys to understand the physical universe by focusing on what are known as nonlinear partial differential equations.

A faculty member is honored by the University on the field during every home football game. A complete listing of the 2013 honorees is available on the Office of the Provost website.
