Gain a better understanding of what energy efficiency is all about and how you can be incentivized for improving energy efficiency at home, school, or work. The panel will offer a “behind the scenes” view into how the University of Notre Dame, the City of South Bend, and area businesses are meeting their sustainability goals. Representatives from Inovateus Solar will offer a “primer” about Solar PV systems and how they operate.
Roger DePoy works for Indiana Michigan Power as the Energy Efficiency and Consumer Program Coordinator. He has nearly 40 years of experience in managing large facilities such as shopping malls and hospitals, and has concentrated on reducing energy consumption, through such measures as lighting retrofits and mechanical upgrades. Roger has a B.A. from Albion College and is a Certified Energy Manager
Rachel Smith is a Field Engineer with Lockheed Martin, focusing on commercial and industrial energy efficiency projects, in the Northern Indiana and Southwest Michigan Service Territories with Indiana Michigan Power. Rachel’s background is in mechanical energy retrofit projects, building automation systems, commercial refrigeration systems, energy management, and capital project planning. She is the current President of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA Michiana). Additionally, she serves the USGBC Northern Indiana Chapter and sits on the committee for the USGBC Mid-Michigan Chapter Green Schools Commission. Rachel holds her EMIT and LEED Green Associate certifications.
Tyler Kanczuzewski is the Director of Solar Supply at Inovateus Solar, a South Bend-based solar energy firm. Tyler currently manages supply operations and its business development. Under his stewardship, the supply team has grown steadily to cultivate and support a wide range of partners and end users in the Midwest. He started with Inovateus as the Warehouse Manager in 2010 and then became Director of Supply in 2012. Tyler has been a board member of the Indiana Renewable Energy Association since 2013, serving as its president for two years (2014-2016). Tyler has also been an advisory member of the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association.
Tyler graduated from Holy Cross College with a Liberal Arts degree, majoring in Business and playing on the golf team. He is currently finishing his MBA with a Sustainability Emphasis from Grand Valley State University and will be done in May 2019. Utilizing his education, industry experience, and professional network, Tyler strives to make the environment cleaner through renewable solar energy by providing the best quality service to solar customers and partners. Tyler is passionate about making a positive impact on those around him, and helping the world think and be more sustainable. He is a conservationist, adventurer, outdoorsman, musician, and golfer.
Allison Mihalich serves as the Senior Program Director in the Office of Sustainability at the University of Notre Dame, responsible for facilitating the University’s sustainability small working groups and advancing the University’s progress towards achieving their sustainability goals. Prior to coming to Notre Dame in February, Allison spent four years at the Environmental Protection
Agency working on Sustainability issues across agency operations. Allison began her career in sustainability strategic planning and metrics development for the Federal Government at Department of Energy in 2009 and has expertise in leading strategic planning efforts, communications planning, budget formulation and execution, and collaborating with a wide array of
stakeholders to advance sustainability goals.
Allison received her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Geography from George Washington University and also received an Executive Masters of Natural Resources from Virginia Tech. She also holds a certificate in Geographic Information Systems from George Washington
University.
Timothy Powers, Research and Policy Associate, Inovateus Solar. Tim specializes in solar project origination and development for utility-scale and commercial projects. Specifically, he uses state and federal policy to determine the best markets and opportunities for large-scale solar in the Midwest. Tim earned a graduate certificate in Strategic Sustainability Leadership at IU South Bend.
