Biology Club Hosts Outreach Event

Author: Marissa Gebhard

Members of the Biology Club put their knowledge to use as they hosted a “Science Night” on Nov. 29 in Stepan Center. They guided developmentally disabled young adults in the Best Buddies Club through several simulated experiments including creating bubbles, writing with invisible ink and forming cold and gaseous substances with combinations of baking soda, vinegar and water. One favorite station gave the buddies the opportunity to dissect large frog replicas. Without the irritating formaldehyde odor, buddies learned a few of the basic inner parts of a frog.

The biology majors answered questions and explained the significance of the experiments as they guided the buddies through each step of the process. “Science Night” is an annual event sponsored by the Biology Club in collaboration with the Best Buddies Club.
