The Mathematics Ph.D. program involves students in a range of pure mathematics fields (see http://math.nd.edu/research/). The primary goal is to learn how to carry out original research and explain these results effectively in both presentations and written articles. Our all our students are provided financial support. Master's degrees are available for Ph.D. candidates who have taken 30 credit hours and passed their candidacy examinations. The department offers a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Mathematics (MSIM), usually for students in other Ph.D. programs.
