Irene Gamba, professor of mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin, will give a colloquium titled, "Analytical and computational issues for models of interacting particle systems."

Abstract:

Stochastic and statistical evolution models of birth-death processes share a common framework that extend to applications ranging from conservative or non-conservative kinetic descriptions systems in gas dynamics, plasmas, aggregation processes, as well as recent models in social dynamics.

We will show how this common framework provides an analytical path to understand the structure of solutions to these models and indicates new approximating and computational approaches alternative to Monte-Carlo methods.
