Dr. Meara is a Notre Dame alumnus and has worked closely with Dr. Paul Farmer and Partners in Health promoting surgical care in global health. He has visited our "Preparing for the Health Professions" class in the past and covered several topics, including:

 

An overview of the training process during medical school, residency and fellowship - what is involved in the education of physicians?

 

A vision of medicine as “vocation”, a response to a higher calling to serve others as in the healing professions.

 

The role of the physician as an advocate for the poor and vulnerable, and the role of advocacy and leadership in shaping medicine’s future.

 

He will be here this year to talk about his work promoting surgical care in global health.
