The Center for Environmental Science and Technology Stable Isotope Facility houses four isotope ratio mass spectrometers: a GC-IRMS, an EA-IRMS, an EA-IRMS specifically for sulfur isotope analysis, and a Gasbench-Precon-IRMS. Stable isotopes (C,N,S,O,H) are natural tracers in biological, ecological, climate, and geological systems, and measurements of stable isotopes are useful in many fields of research, such as: biology, ecology, forensics, geology, archeology, anthropology, paleontology, medicine, and more. In this talk, I will be discussing the types of samples that can be analyzed at CEST, and the broad range of applications for stable isotope analyses.
Bio: Dana Biasatti joined Notre Dame Research (NDR) in 2016 and is a Stable Isotope Specialist at the Center for Environmental Science and Technology (CEST). She maintains three isotope ratio mass spectrometers (IRMS), along with five peripheral preparation devices, and trains users to analyze their samples. Before joining NDR, Dana was a Research Associate at the University of Maryland Chesapeake Biological Laboratory for five years, where she was responsible for maintaining a stable isotope laboratory. Dana received a PhD in Geology from Florida State University in 2009.
