The Bonnet Problem: A Hands-On Adventure in 17 Chapters

Award-winning filmmaker Ekaterina Eremenko of the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences will share her new film, which follows the work of three mathematicians as they collaborate to solve a long-standing geometric problem proposed by a French geometer Pierre Ossian-Bonnet.
Alongside their work, the film explores the lives and contributions of Bonnet and his contemporary Gaston Darboux, as well as the history of French mathematics in the 19th century. Computer graphics help to unravel complex concepts and make them accessible to all.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmaker. Light refreshments will follow.
