Forever Chemicals, Forever Lakes: PFAS and Our Great Lakes

Join us for Science at Sunset, an evening presentation at the Notre Dame Linked Experimental Ecosystem Facility, where Alison Zachritz, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Notre Dame, will discuss how “forever chemicals” impact the Great Lakes watershed.

In this talk, we will explore how PFAS, "forever chemicals," have made their way into the Great Lakes and the fish that call them home. We will trace how these chemicals move through the food web, examine PFAS levels in commonly consumed fish, look at what four decades of data reveal about long-term trends in the ecosystem, and consider why understanding PFAS persistence matters for the future of the Great Lakes and the people who rely on them.

Light snacks will be provided. Bring your own beverage - no glass containers please. Registration is required by October 15 by calling 574-654-3155 or emailing bendixwoods@sjcparks.org.
