Stefano Castruccio, Ph.D., Notre Dame Collegiate Associate Professor, spoke at the TIES Invited President’s Lecture, hosted by the International Statistical Institute. Victoria Weber Woodard, Ph.D., associate teaching professor, received St. Joseph County’s Michiana Forty Under 40 award. Xiufan Yu, Ph.D., assistant professor, received the 2023 IMS New Researcher Travel Award from the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.

Department of Biological Sciences

Patricia Champion, Ph.D., professor, became the chairperson of the Bacterial Virulence study section for the National Institutes of Health. Ana Flores Mireles, Ph.D., Janet C. and Jeffrey A. Hawk Collegiate Associate Professor, was awarded the Open Philanthropy Organization/Good Venture Foundation Grant. Xin Lu, Ph.D., John M. and Mary Jo Boler Collegiate Associate Professor, was the team lead and Advocate Choice Winner of the Breast Cancer Hackathon Challenge put on by Susan G. Komen. Jason Rohr, Ph.D., Ludmilla F., Stephen J., and Robert T. Galla College Professor & Department Chair, was awarded the Frontiers Planet Prize from the National Academy of Sciences and the George Mercer Award from the Ecological Society of America. Felipe Santiago-Tirado, Ph.D., assistant professor, received the 2023 Future Leaders in Host-Microbe Interactions from the American Society for Microbiology Journal of Infection and Immunity.

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Jon Camden, Ph.D., professor and director of undergraduate studies, became a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Science. Patricia Clark, Ph.D., associate vice president for research, and professor, received the Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Award from the Protein Society. Holly Goodson, Ph.D, professor and associate chair, became a Fellow of the American Society for Cell Biology. Adam Jaffe, Ph.D., assistant professor, received the National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award. Prashant Kamat, Ph.D., Rev. John A. Zahm Professor of Science, was awarded the Henry H. Storch Award In Energy Chemistry by the American Chemical Society and was named to Clarivate’s list of Highly Cited Researchers. Laurie Littlepage, Ph.D., Campbell Family Associate Professor of Cancer Research, received the 2022 Translational Research Award from METAvivor. Katharine White, Ph.D, Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor, received the National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award.

Natasha Dobrinen, Ph.D, professor, was awarded UCLA’s Distinguished Women in Math Lecture. Michael Gekhtman, Ph.D., professor, became a Mercator Fellow of the University of Heidelberg. Anand Pillay, Ph.D., William J. Hank Family Professor, became a Simons Senior Leader for the Simons Foundation. Nicholas Salter, Ph.D, assistant professor, received the Wroclaw Mathematicians Foundation’s Kamil Duszenko Award.

Department of Physics and Astronomy

Ani Aprahamian, Ph.D., The Frank M. Freimann Professor of Physics, was awarded the Alikhanyan Medal from the A. Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory of Armenia and the State Science Committee. Timothy Beers, Ph.D., Grace-Rupley Professor of Physics, became a Fellow of the American Astronomical Society. László Forró, Ph.D, Aurora and Thomas Marquez Professor of Physics of Complex Quantum Matter, became a Fellow of the American Physical Society. L. Arielle Phillips, Ph.D., associate professor of the practice and associate dean of collegiate affairs, received the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics Residency. Sylwia Ptasinska, Ph.D, professor, was the Organizer and Chair of the POSMOL 2023 International Conference. Rebecca Surman, Ph.D, professor, became a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
